Telecommunications and Internet provider Spirit Telecom has beefed up its executive management team with the appointment of a new chief operating officer and a new chief marketing officer.

Matthew Hobbs, a 20-year veteran of the IT and telecommunications sectors has been appointed chief operating officer and Catherine Bolch moves from Origin Energy to take up the role of chief marketing officer.

In 2002, Hobbs sold his own company to M2 and joined as CIO, where he played a key role in the acquisition and integration of 10 companies acquired by M2, which saw the company grow from $34 million to over $500 million a year in just four years.

Hobbs will replace Russell Mitchell as COO, who will now take on Spirit’s newly developed role of General Manager Market Development.

Managing Director of Spirit, Geoff Neate, said Hobbs and Bolch bring a wealth of experience to Spirit, “not only in their respective roles, but also in understanding the growth requirements commensurate with Spirit’s ambitions”.

“Russell moves into creating a new revenue generating segment, which will assist in Spirit’s growth.

“We welcome and congratulate Matthew, Catherine and Russell in their new roles.”
