AMD gives Lenovo’s Y27f curved monitor gaming FreeSync freedom

If you’ve ever played PC games and have suffered non-smooth, stuttering graphics, you need a monitor with AMD FreeSync technology, with Lenovo now in the game.

AMD FreeSync technology has been around for a while now, delivering "greater gaming immersion and smooth stutter-free gaming harnessing AMD FreeSync technology", which is how Lenovo and AMD described the performance of Lenovo’s Y27f Curved Gaming Monitor

Although I might have been far bolder than Lenovo in calling the monitor something dramatically more exciting than Y27f, like BlastOff Spark 27f, or LOL 27f, or WTFOMG 27f, Unicorn Splash 27f, the Fragger 1027f, the Spawn-a-tron 27, the Visual Obliterator 5000 or something a lot more exciting, why Y was chosen is a mystery but it is at least short.

Not short is the stature of technological smarts packed into the Lenovo’s curved gaming monitor, which is described as the company’s "first free-standing display incorporating AMD FreeSync technology, offering low input latency and an ultra-smooth, stutter free gaming and multimedia experience".

{loadposition alex08}Lenovo’s Y27f promises "the most extreme curve available today" across its 27-inch-wide surface, which the "vertically aligned display" promising to provide "extraordinary gaming immersion and a true-to-life viewing experience".

As fans of AMD FreeSync already know, the technology is specifically designed to "help ensure smooth and fluid gameplay".

The technology "enhances communication between the Lenovo Y27f Curved Gaming Monitor and an AMD FreeSync-capable GPU, allowing the display to dynamically adapt its refresh rate in alignment with the GPU’s creation of new frames".

What this does is to "prevent tearing by ensuring no new frames are drawn during the refresh period", while also eliminating stuttering, "since the refresh rate is locked to the creation of new frames".

Given that FreeSync has now been around for a while, it should come as no surprise to see the technology supported on a wide range of AMD Radeon GPUs, including the recently launched Polaris architecture-based Radeon RX Series graphics cards.

Li Jun Su, executive director and general manager of Visuals BU, PC & Smart Device Business Group, Lenovo said: “Our latest monitor, the Lenovo Y27f Curved Gaming Monitor, is optimised for gaming.

“AMD FreeSync technology along with a fast 144 Hz refresh rate eliminates screen tearing, and minimises display stutter, input lag and motion blur to display more natural movement. Combined with full high-definition 1920 x 1080 resolution and the most extreme curved display to date, the monitor provides our customers with the smoothest possible gaming and a great experience.”

Raja Koduri, senior vice-president and chief architect, Radeon Technologies Group, said: “With AMD FreeSync technology, the new Lenovo Y27f provides truly immersive gaming.

“The monitor is an excellent choice for both casual and competitive gamers that depend on low latency, high framerates, and an ultra-smooth experience powered by AMD FreeSync technology.”

The Lenovo Y27f Curved Gaming Monitor is available now starting at US$399. There is no Australian price as yet, but a price will come and when it does we will definitely share it with you!
